COOL DRY CONSERVATORY,
GARDENS BY THE BAY

Spanning 1.28 hectares, The Cool Dry Conservatory (‘Flower Dome’) at Gardens by the Bay houses a collection of unique plant life from arid and Mediterranean regions around the world. Here, Tropical Environment was responsible for the planting of mature trees and assorted plants into new created planting beds, along with their after care. This was a challenging project that involved great skill in transplanting rare specimen trees and plants that hail from regions such as South Africa, Central Chile, California, South America, South West Australia, Spain and Italy; some as old as a 1000 years, or even weighing more than 30 tons. Special planting media and installation processes were used to enable the creation of raised planting beds over large paved areas, while also preventing soil settlement from the first day of installation till date. Among the wide array of tree and plant varieties planted in the Flower Dome are Date Palms, Olive Trees, Baobabs, Dragon Trees, Bottle Trees, Wine Palms, Wollemi Pine, Cacti, Aloes and more.
